Researchers from the school of interactive computing at Georgia Tech has developed a prototype iPhone app called BrailleTouch that should revolutionize the texting and data entry for iPhone users who are blind.

App-key-place the six-three for each hand-on the iPhone screen in landscape orientation. People who are familiar with Braille (which uses a grid of six raised dots) then formed the letter by touching the screen and receive audio feedback to confirm that the desired letter has been typed. There is also a movement to add rooms and remove incorrect letters.

BrailleTouch have demonstrated proven to be up to six times faster than texting solution for visually impaired, with speeds of up to 35 words per minute on a 92 percent accuracy. While the current iOS app only (there are versions of the iPad as well), the developers plan to make BrailleTouch available to all smartphone platforms.

December, just a month after I applied to, I’ve been lucky enough to get a job in Singapore.
