What Microsoft can learn about Windows 8 from Mac OS X/iOS combo

The Desktop has been relegated to just another app to run in the Metro. And it’s underpowered compared to earlier versions of Windows–start orb, Start menu and Quick Launch toolbar is now nowhere to be found. Given that the app that most people use in their everyday lives–Microsoft Office–it will only run on the Desktop, it means that Windows 8 for many people would be less useful than previous versions of Windows.

Why is Microsoft doing this? It lost the battle of the t and smartphone Android and iOS, and Windows 8 t will power and finally a Smartphone. Microsoft hopes that people will want one interface on all their devices, Windows 8 interface.

That was a mistake, because the desktop is not t or smartphone, and require a different interface. Apple admits it, and so when it designed the iOS, it is not repeating the Mac OS x. Cisco iOS based on Mac OS X, and they share a common foundation so that the Mac OS X and iOS device can work smoothly with one another and share information and data, as in iCloud.

Georgia Tech BrailleTouch is the author of Braille for the iPhone

Researchers from the school of interactive computing at Georgia Tech has developed a prototype iPhone app called BrailleTouch that should revolutionize the texting and data entry for iPhone users who are blind.

App-key-place the six-three for each hand-on the iPhone screen in landscape orientation. People who are familiar with Braille (which uses a grid of six raised dots) then formed the letter by touching the screen and receive audio feedback to confirm that the desired letter has been typed. There is also a movement to add rooms and remove incorrect letters.

BrailleTouch have demonstrated proven to be up to six times faster than texting solution for visually impaired, with speeds of up to 35 words per minute on a 92 percent accuracy. While the current iOS app only (there are versions of the iPad as well), the developers plan to make BrailleTouch available to all smartphone platforms.

The Video below shows BrailleTouch in action, and you can read the details of the system in the press release from Georgia Tech.
